Our Furry Friends
At Get Off My Back Sanctuary, our horses are not here to perform or work. They are here to rest.
The majority of our rescued horses arrive after a lifetime of physical labor, neglect, or hardship. Many are seniors, and others live with lasting injuries or limitations from their previous lives. They have earned a peaceful, well-deserved retirement where comfort, dignity, and individualized care come first.
We believe every horse deserves to be treated with patience and respect. At our sanctuary, healing happens through consistent care, proper nutrition, veterinary support, and the freedom to simply be a horse.
Get Off My Back Sanctuary exists to provide a safe, permanent home where rescued horses can live out their days in peace, surrounded by compassion and thoughtful stewardship. It is our commitment to honor their past by protecting their present and preserving their future.

Maple
Miss Maple was saved at the very last moment from a slaughter-bound truck. This gentle senior lady caught our eye in the holding pen, and we knew she had to come home with us. She arrived severely underweight with badly neglected hooves and in great need of care.
With time, proper nutrition, and lots of love, Maple has made a beautiful transformation. Today, she is healthy, happy, and one of the sanctuary’s favorites. Sweet and friendly, Maple especially loves children, and never says no to a treat!
Maple’s journey is a reminder of how compassion and second chances can restore both body and spirit.

Chief
Chief’s story is one of longing for connection. Living alone in a small enclosure, he repeatedly escaped in search of other horses so often that the sheriff was called to round him up one final time. That was the moment we were asked to step in and bring Chief home.
Today, Chief is right where he always wanted to be. At Get Off My Back Sanctuary, he is safe, settled, and happily grazing beside his best friend, Big Mo. Surrounded by companionship and care, Chief has found the herd he was searching for, and the peace that comes with it.

Cowboy
Cowboy is known for his charm, gentle spirit, and big personality. Though he has some wear on his knees that has earned him a slower pace of life, his heart remains eager and engaged.
He enjoys attention and is often the first to greet you at the fence with a soft nicker. Above all, he is a sweet soul who reminds us that even well-worn horses still have so much love to give.

Moses
After many years of pulling carts, Moses, affectionately known as Big Mo, is now safely retired at Get Off My Back Sanctuary. His hardworking past left him with navicular disease, a condition that requires ongoing care and special attention.
Today, Big Mo enjoys a slower, well-deserved life. He can often be found peacefully grazing beside his best friend, content and secure in the place he now calls home. Gentle and steady, Moses reminds us of the quiet strength and faithfulness that come from a life of service, and the importance of rest, compassion, and second chances.

Ladybug
Ladybug came to Get Off My Back Sanctuary after our veterinarian’s office called asking if we could give her a home. Her previous owner fell on hard times and was unable to care for Ladybug. Ladybug was a senior horse with worn knees from her jumping days. The owner had called to schedule euthanasia but instead, Ladybug was given a second chance. When we arrived to pick her up, her owner was in tears, grateful that Ladybug would be able to live her remaining years in peace rather than saying goodbye that day. Now safely retired at the sanctuary, Ladybug spends her days grazing, resting, and enjoying the quiet life she deserves. Here, she is honored for the years she gave and cared for in the gentle chapter that follows.

Sugar
Sugar is as sweet as her name, a gentle soul with a powerful story of survival. She was saved at the very last moment from a slaughter-bound truck after the sheriff intervened due to severe neglect. Elderly and fragile, Sugar arrived in desperate need of rehabilitation and compassionate care.
Today, Sugar is safe and cherished at Get Off My Back Sanctuary, where she is living out her senior years surrounded by peace and kindness. Though she bears a large tumor on her neck, we see her for who she truly is: beautiful, resilient, and deeply loved.
Sugar’s presence reminds us that every life has value, no matter age or appearance, and that healing comes in many forms.

Apple Jack
Apple Jack may be small in size, but he is mighty in spirit. This senior miniature horse has a true rags-to-riches story. For the first three years of his life, he was tied to a tree with little freedom or care, until rescue changed everything.
Given a second chance, Apple Jack went on to thrive in the miniature horse jumping world, earning the title of Grand Champion jumper. Today, he is happily retired at Get Off My Back Sanctuary, resting his well-earned jumping knees and enjoying a peaceful life filled with love and care.
Apple Jack’s story is a powerful reminder of resilience, redemption, and the incredible potential that can be unlocked when compassion steps in.

Biscuit
Biscuit is a sweet miniature mare who is finally experiencing peace after many years as a brood mare. For much of her life, she was bred repeatedly, only to have her babies taken away and sold. Now, those difficult days are behind her.
In her senior years, Biscuit lives a calm, quiet life at Get Off My Back Sanctuary. Shy and gentle, she finds comfort sharing her days with goats, donkeys, and her miniature horse companion, Apple Jack. Together, they enjoy the safety, rest, and companionship she always deserved.
Biscuit’s story is a tender reminder that healing doesn’t always look loud, sometimes it looks like stillness, safety, and finally being allowed to just be.

CHEWY
Chewy came to Get Off My Back Sanctuary because of her cribbing habit. A behavior often rooted in past stress that, once learned, rarely goes away. While this vice can make a horse undesirable to many, it does not define who she is.
Full of personality and charm, Chewy has a way of making her presence known, especially along a wooden fence line. Her quirks, imperfect feet, and all, are simply part of her story.
Today, Chewy is safe, accepted, and deeply loved. Her life is a reminder that worth is never measured by flaws, and every horse deserves to be chosen and given a place to belong.

Esther
Esther is a senior donkey who came to Get Off My Back Sanctuary after no one wanted her at an auction. Older and overlooked, she was left behind simply because she no longer fit a purpose for others.
Esther has a permanently broken crest in her neck, a condition that cannot be corrected, but it does nothing to diminish her gentle spirit. Sweet-natured and kind, she enjoys a quiet life at the sanctuary and is especially fond of treats and soft attention.
Now safe and cherished, Esther reminds us that age and imperfections do not lessen worth, and that every life deserves love, dignity, and a place to belong.

job
Job is a senior donkey with a quiet, gentle soul who is learning that it’s safe to trust again. Shy by nature, he takes his time getting to know people, but with patience and kindness, his sweet personality slowly shines through.
Job shares his days with his partner, Esther, and the two are a bonded pair of old donkeys who bring comfort and companionship to one another. Together, they enjoy a peaceful life at Get Off My Back Sanctuary, where there is no pressure, only consistency, care, and love.
Job’s story reminds us that trust is built gently, over time, and that healing often comes through companionship and patience.

BANJO
Banjo is one of our treasured seniors, known for his gentle spirit and quiet strength. With a calm presence and kind heart, Banjo has naturally taken on a special role here at the sanctuary, as a faithful companion and guide to Frosty.
Frosty, who is blind in one eye, is rarely seen without Banjo by his side. Where Banjo goes, Frosty follows. With patience and care, Banjo helps lead him safely around the pasture, offering reassurance and stability simply by being near. Their bond is a beautiful example of trust, compassion, and the deep connections horses form with one another.
In his golden years, Banjo reminds us that purpose doesn’t fade with age. His kindness speaks louder than words, and his quiet devotion to Frosty reflects the heart of our sanctuary, where every life is valued, every season honored, and love is lived out daily.

FROSTY
Frosty is a sweet senior with a quiet, tender soul. Blind in one eye, he experiences the world a little differently, and because of that, he approaches life with caution and sensitivity. Shy and reserved by nature, Frosty takes his time learning to trust, but once he does, his gentle heart shines through.
You’ll almost always find Frosty right by Banjo’s side. Banjo is his steady anchor and trusted guide, and their bond gives Frosty the confidence to navigate each day with peace and security. Where Banjo goes, Frosty follows, finding comfort simply in being close.
Frosty reminds us that healing doesn’t have to be loud or fast. Sometimes it’s quiet, patient, and deeply rooted in companionship. His story is a beautiful reflection of why sanctuary matters. Because every horse, no matter how shy or vulnerable, deserves safety, dignity, and a trusted friend to walk beside them.
