Our Furry Friends
At Get Off My Back Sanctuary, our horses are not here to work. They are here to rest.
Most of our rescued horses come to us after a lifetime of hard use, neglect, or difficult circumstances. Many are seniors, and others carry physical limitations from their past. Because of this, the majority of our horses are not ridden. They have earned a peaceful, dignified retirement where their needs, comfort, and well-being always come first.
We believe every horse deserves respect, patience, and a safe place to heal. At our sanctuary, that healing happens through gentle care, quiet companionship, and meaningful connection. Never through expectation or performance.
A small number of our horses, who are physically able and carefully evaluated, may participate in very light riding during our Barn Buddies children’s program. These rides are slow, closely supervised, and always centered on the horse’s comfort and consent. Even then, riding is not the focus. Relationship, trust, and kindness are.
Here, children learn an important lesson:
Love doesn’t always mean doing. It often means honoring boundaries, slowing down, and caring well.
We are grateful to provide our horses with a final chapter filled with peace, purpose, and compassion. And to teach the next generation what true stewardship looks like.
